Living in Deadlands isn't free.
While staying in a hotel or saloon, each day will cost you money. While you're willing to pay, you'll get bed and board, but if you can't foot the bill, you'll be sleeping on the streets.

Travel rations - $1 for 3 days food, per Lb
A pound of traditional pemmican could realistically keep one person alive for about 1–3 days, depending on activity level and whether they had anything else to eat alongside it.
Traditional buffalo pemmican was extremely calorie-dense because it was roughly equal parts dried meat and rendered fat. A pound commonly contained somewhere around 2,500–3,500 calories
Renting/buying horses - $2 per day / $50 to buy
Renting/buying Chocobo - $6 per day / $150 to buy
Train Tickets cost $3, per trip.
Each ticket will take you where you need to go, and you can get off early. But each time you board, you'll have to pay up front.
